I know it hasn't, at least not anywhere near enough. And that's what I was
asking Dajoka (or others) to correct me if I was wrong. It's my understanding the AMA has fought expanding the number of doctors available, or getting licensed based on experience elsewhere (e.g. military, overseas, etc.), and that Med schools have not noticeably increased in numbers nor the amount of docs they put out.
That's a big problem for all of us, not just Medicaid patients. It leads to higher prices when demand from more insured went up but supply didn't go up to match that increase. And much longer wait times to get appointments, particularly for specialists. And for Medicaid patients it was even worse because a) more and more docs can refuse to take Medicaid with more non-Medicaid patients available, and b) more and more patients are on Medicaid demanding supply from the same or less number of available providers.
So as "heartless and uncaring" as we GOPers are told we are, I fail to see how putting more people into a system with fewer providers, the lowest quality providers, and longer and longer wait times qualifies as "caring and compassionate", even if it is 100% "free". But it makes us "feel better" because at least we did something for those folks.
