I like it. And I think it's a great deal the Dems should jump on if they
truly care about the DACA folks.
Gives 1.8M that have never known another home immediate legal status, with a path to citizenship no less.
Limits chain migration to spouses and children, which has accounted for an outrageous percentage of our overall immigration #'s.
Adds more emphasis on the merit aspects of those we opt to let into our country.
Shifts the diversity Visa lottery #'s, which has very little logical defense, to those that have been waiting for years to get legal immigration status.
Increases border security and other security to minimize the future flow of illegal immigrants and the future demand on Gov't services they would need.
My only real issue is I'm not a fan of drastic reduction and hard caps on legal immigration (as was also proposed in the RAISE Act), as that seems to be an arbitrary figure and may not meet our realistic needs or wants wrt immigration. But TBF, future Congresses could presumably raise those restrictions if they deem that is what is in the best interest of the country.
It's not nearly the ideal for either side, but as compromises go, it seems like a pretty damn good one IMO.
