I'm not even arguing those handouts/credits shouldn't exist, I actually support that within reason. But it is a handout, be it for having a kid, paying for healthcare, or whatever, not a tax cut. And there was more of that for the lower and middle class than you seem to think in this plan, thanks to the increased refundable tax credit for kids, and the changes in brackets/rates and standard deduction.
As for your point on other taxes, I don't disagree. I've always hated when the GOP claims that 47% "doesn't have skin in the game" because it's rather disingenuous. While a relatively tiny share of our revenue, if you're arguing to get rid of regressive "hidden" taxes like gas, sin, utility, etc. taxes, you'll have no problem with me being an ally. (payroll taxes is an entirely different subject that really has nothing to do with this discussion since it's for funding SS and Medicare/aid, and not that which is funded by Income tax)
