I'm not sure thats true anymore unfortunately. this shouldnt be a left or
right issue anyway. its a humanity issue. Women deserve respect and they should not live in fear on a daily basis. i always thought that sounded ridiculous but conversations with women in my life have lent A LOT of credence to that being the overall mindset of women throughout their lives. i dont even know how one lives like that. it makes my blood boil
rant aside, i would argue that at least those in positions of power have generally thought of women as 2nd class citizens throughout human history. i think an argument could be made that in modern times, generally the man was taken at his word and the woman's dismissed unless there was overwhelming evidence. Just look at some of the information we are learning about right now. its heartbreaking.
but that does not mean the pendulum should swing all the way back to the opposite. we live in a country run by laws. laws require trials and evidence. just because someone said something happened does not mean it did. we need to uphold this ideal that one cannot simply make something true by saying it. innocent until proven guilty.
